Federico Arani
Study for Dowsing
24 Jan - 22 Feb 2025
Opening: Fri 24 Jan, 6-8pm
Federico Arani’s multidisciplinary practice includes sculpture, painting, and site-specific interventions, as well as curating exhibitions and community-based projects. Influenced by the study of proto-sciences, sci-fi literature, archaeology, and evolutionary biology, Federico shapes an ecosystem of hybrid tools and transmuted presences—footprints of a decayed, post-societal elsewhere that gaze upon us from above, cautiously revealing themselves, but never fully graspable.
Salvaged materials, archaeological finds, and parts of old equipment and machinery meld with archaic and alchemical human practices such as ceramic and metal forming in a continuous hybridization and mutual corruption, blurring the line between what is found and what is made.
Thus, uncanny settings and unstable images come to life: impossible and abandoned desires for connection, protection, preservation, and discovery—as if he wanted to unearth lost knowledge, a drifting form of primordial language, in an attempt to process and understand personal traumas and human fears and anxieties.
At Commonage Projects, this is Arani’s first solo exhibition.
